Howdy guys and gals! Your favorite newsletter is BACK and (debatably) better than ever. Winter break has come to an end, and a new semester shall be beginning for us at Carrol University! I’ve gotten pretty good at making over-medium eggs. Just wanted to let y’all know. Put a little basil on top of the eggs once they’re done cooking. Anyways.

Monkey Monday 3 #1, pan-frying in…

George’s Place

George, my friend and brother in Christ, graciously opened up his home for me to stay in during winter break! Break overall was really swell for me, and for the first time EVER I’m not actually itching to get back to school. It has been a great season of reading, detaching from dopamine, developing new habits, and overall just learning what it is to grow into a young man for real. Let me give y’all a little tour of what my break looked like.

Chair

First off, we’ve got possibly my new favorite spot on Earth: Chair. This chair has become the spot for me. In this season of building new habits and detaching from screens, I spent a lot of time in this chair. Every day after work, I would come home, make some iced instant coffee (with honey), and sit in this chair. Sometimes I would turn on a record, but often I would just sit there with my coffee and think. I read a lot of theology/edifying Christian books in that chair, as well as journaled. I even curled up sideways on the chair and napped a couple times. Needless to say, I love this chair. But I don’t always sit in it. That chair is not for guitar playing. I tried a couple times, but ended up falling asleep with guitar in hand. That’s not what the chair is for, I guess. As I’m writing this, I’m sitting on a small couch on the other end of this room. This is the guitar couch.

Kitchen

My next favorite spot in this house, we’ve got the kitchen! As you can see above, I worked on my cooking skills over break. I learned how to cook eggs over medium (which is how I like them), and the picture above were the first ones I made. I eventually decided 2 eggs wasn’t enough for me in the morning, and have since been making 3 eggs a morning. I also messed around with chicken. I made my famous honey mustard breaded chicken, as well as some yummy chicken and rice bowls (pictured above). I messed around with different seasonings, oven vs stovetop, and overall had lots of fun (and good food).

Zeman

I also worked my big boy aerospace assembly engineer job at Zeman Tool & Manufacturing 5 days a week. I would love to go into detail on all the stuff I was working on, but I don’t think I’m really allowed to do that. So here are some pics of myself and Lucas, who is quite possibly the funniest (and scariest) human currently living.

So that’s pretty much it. Did lots of Jiujitsu of course, listened to a couple audiobooks, as well as absolutely DECIMATED Lucia in boop over and over again. Buuuuuut that’s too much to write about so I’ll cut off here. Happy readings.

Ashley’s Animals

Galápagos Penguin!

The Galápagos penguin is the second smallest species of penguin, standing 19-20 inches tall, and weighing from 4.4-8.8 lbs.

Galápagos penguins live only on the Galápagos islands, with most of their population living specifically on Fernandina island, further North than any other penguin.

Galápagos penguins mate for life, and are very affectionate with their partners. They can lay eggs numerous times a year (depending on food availability).

Galápagos penguins can swim at speeds up to 22 miles per hour, and hunt both alone or in pairs. Most other penguin species hunt in large groups.

Galápagos penguins are endangered, with an estimated <2000 penguins in the wild. This is due mostly to climate change and invasive species.
