Monkey Monday 2 #3

Kittens & Chopsticks

What’s fluffy my kittens? We have made it to another Monday! I am currently caffeinated and sleep deprived! My strength fails me! My feeble mind cannot contain and sustain the bulk of information that has been requested of it! Yet my arms can still move! My voice can still produce sound! The ground remains solid under my feet! I shall humbly approach each day anew, knowing I am held fast and secure by the grace of my Savior! Let us take each day at a time, my kittens, into this new week!

Monkey Monday 2 #3, pouncing in…

MILO

Mew’ve gato be kitten me right meow.

-Shakespeare

Last week, I was informed by my mysterious roommate Juan that we would be having a cat stay with us for a week or so. I was quite excited. I love kitties! I haven’t had a cat of my own for over 10 years since Padmé (pictured below), so I was looking forward to the responsibility of taking care of one now that I’m a responsible adult!

Yung Nate and Padmé (yes I named her). Probably the cutest picture you’ve ever seen.

Milo!

So this is Milo! He is 1 year old, and havoc incarnate. He has a beautiful coat that reminds me of Tai Lung. He’s very soft.

The first thing he had to do when he moved in was investigate the suite, naturally.

Investigating my room

Investigating my guitars

I found out pretty quickly that he is a super snuggly guy! If I was in bed, he would lay on my chest, neck, or even my face. If I was in my chair, he would jump up on either the seat or the back and lay down.

Our first snuggle! This is great!

Our 100th snuggle. He has no boundaries.

He’s also insane. For whatever reason, he LOVES biting toes, and it’s horrible. My boy needs some discipline in the home BAD.

Freakazoid!

Mid pounce (he’s coming to eat me)

He’s also incredibly needy and entitled. He likes to be vocal for no reason (don’t worry, I make sure his needs are met), and will walk around meowing VERY loudly for minutes on end. One time, I was really worried about him, I thought maybe he didn’t get dinner. He was meowing at me, and pawing at his food dish. So I took a chance and fed him.

No cats were harmed; only lightly singed.

Greed. Gluttony. Deceit.

Ever since that successful act of deception, he routinely meows at me, runs to his food dish, and paws at it. Not gonna work twice pal.

Here’s a quick compilation of some other Milo moments from this week:

Bro is so intrusive

He’s supervising my dishwashing

TRAPPED!

he’s so cute

Caught knocking over my fake plants in 4k

Where he hid during the fire alarm drill (he was in pure TERROR). poor little guy.

I have a few more days with Milo, he leaves Wednesday. He’s gotten too comfortable. He needs to leave. If I try to sleep, he either bites my toes, meows, or loudly climbs through the blinds. My patience is running thin, this boy is evil. Hopefully I can survive the next couple days with this little terror.

Straight malice in his eyes

Pick of the Week

This summer I was dabbling in some folkier, americana stuff, and I came across Swedish singer/songwriter Kristian Matsson, aka The Tallest Man On Earth. He is in fact 5’7, so he’s actually tied for being the tallest man on earth with handsome Minnesotan legend Nathaniel Passig.

Despite his frankly untruthful, offensive, and morally ambiguous name, this man makes some spankin good music! Man he play that guitar like a banjo and go “boing doing, plunkalunk a lunk a dink dink” with such finesse and ease.

While I’m not sure if the lyrics are incredibly beautiful and poetic, or if it just sounds poetic while making no sense due to English not being his main language, the music is phenomenal! If you’re looking for something sweet, simple, and twangy, I recommend giving this album a listen!

Is It Ripe?

Aight fine Jo, I listened to the new Twenty One Pilots album, just for you.

These guys occupy such a strange space in my head; Whenever I listen to Twenty One Pilots, I think “Man this is some cool stuff!” I acknowledge that these guys are super creative and skilled, but for some reason they tend to juuuuust miss my taste. But that wasn’t going to stop me from dipping my toes into to their new album Breach.

The duo’s 7th album, Breach, is a followup to their 2024 project Clancy. They play with all kinds of big drummy, synthy, and even hip-hoppy sounds. For me, some of these sounds are super cool! But others fall a little flat for me.

I would say, if you are a fan of the duo, or liked any of their stuff in the past, this album is probably for you! They set out to do something, and they did it! I think this is a well put together album, with lots of heart and creativity behind it, but it may not entirely be for me. That being said, I’ll give it a few more listens before I leave it.

HUNTINGTON”S CURED!!!

Good news everyone! Last week, in the United Kingdom, there was a massive breakthrough for treating Huntington’s disease. What is Huntington’s disease (HD)? It is a neurodegenerative disorder, meaning the nerve cells in your brain decay over time causing motor and cognitive functions to decline. Albeit rare, it is a terrible disease that eventually leads to dementia and paralysis. Last week at University College London, Professor Sarah Tabrizi (co-head of the UCL Huntington’s disease center, pictured above) announced that a gene therapy they were researching was found to have slowed the rate of progression of HD by 75%. This is a huge neuroscience breakthrough. Prior to this, the life expectancy for people diagnosed with HD was 15-20 years after diagnosis. If we crunch the numbers, that means people diagnosed with HD can live a normal life expectancy!

This week’s mission: Be extra nice to your professors. They do research that changes the world.

Ashley’s Animals

Mountain Lion!

Puma, Cougar, Catamount, Panther, and Mountain Lion all refer to the same animal: Puma Concolor, the biggest cat in the Small Cat (felinae, the cats that can purr) subfamily of Cats. They can grow between 5-8 feet long, and can weigh anywhere between 64-220 lbs.

Hikers and campers are often told to be careful of screams in the woods and rocky trails at night; not because of cryptids and ghosts, but because one of the many vocalizations of the Mountain Lion can be described as “a woman screaming in distress.”

Mountain Lions are a keystone species, meaning their survival and conservation have a disproportionately important role in the stability of their, and other species environment.

Mountain Lions give birth to up to 6 kittens, protecting and caring for them for about 2 years.

Mountain Lions have a decreasing population but are not currently at any risk (except for the florida subspecies puma concolor coryi), and have the widest range of any cat in the world, being found in many places in North And South America.

Verse Of The Week

I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
