Hello my fabulous readers, and happy Monkey Monday! For all you music students, I hope juries went well for you! And for all you non music students, I hope you had a great, restful weekend!

Finals week is upon us here at Carroll University. I was too busy driving for a bajillion hours this weekend, so I have a LOT of stuff to catch up on. Oh Well!

We have a very special issue of Monkey Monday that I CANNOT wait for y’all to read. Hopefully we can provide a positive springboard for y’all to launch into this week with. Carroll students, good luck with finals this week, you got this! And for the rest of you, I love and appreciate you all the same!

Monkey Monday 2 #14, rockin in…

Rose

On December 9th, my long pregnant sister finally gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl! This past weekend, I made the long pilgrimage across the frigid state of Wisconsin to meet this angelic little girl. Meet Rose!

Unc and Niece

Per my sisters’ wise request, I will not be posting this beautiful baby’s face on the internet at this time, but believe me, she’s a cutie! She is so sweet and perfect, already with a full head of hair! She also has beautiful eyes like her parents (which I will not be showing you). Here are some more, not super detailed photos of baby Rose:

…And protective of his girlies.

Uncle-Niece nap

This is a very exciting event for my family, as this is the first in our bloodline since me! As for Miranda, it was a healthy (but very fast!) birth. She is doing really well (all things considered, obviously her body is traumatized now), and is now entirely focused on being a mom, which has always been her dream job!

For sake of privacy, this is all I will be sharing with you all. We are all full of joy and thankfulness for a healthy birth, and a precious lil baby!

Is It Ripe?

BOOM this week I turned on another movie. This time we’ve got 2019’s Sound Of Metal, which won multiple Oscar Academy Awards, winning the award for Best Sound and Best Original Screenplay. It was also nominated for (but came up short of winning) Best Motion Picture, Best Lead Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Before watching I knew absolutely nothing besides what the synopsis on Amazon said, but dudes, this movie is incredible.

Sound Of Metal

We follow drummer Ruben Stone, a young man who lives on the road in his van with his girlfriend, and the other half of his band: Lou. As they are touring, Ruben starts to experience hearing loss. What follows is a VERY intense and moving story as Ruben’s condition begins to tear his life apart. He struggles with the choice of trying to forcefully reclaim his old life, or accept his new reality.

Ruben and Lou

I don’t want to get into any spoiler territory, but this movie is really something. It’s littered with grief, addiction, loneliness, anger, and acceptance. It’s quite intense and almost had me crying at many different moments, but it’s so worth the watch. The acting is phenomenal, the sound design is so creative and immersive. And yeah just go watch this movie it’s really good.

Just Ruben

Interview Time!

This week we’ve got the young gangsta Catie!

Ashley’s Animals

Tapirs!

Tapirs are large, shy, herbavors that are around 2 meters long, 1 meter tall, and 330-660lbs

Taken by Nate at the Minnesota Zoo

Tapirs are really good swimmers. They can use their flexible noses like snorkels and have been known to hide in water to avoid predators.

Baku is a term for the Japanese mythological creature who looks like a Tapir and eats bad dreams to help people sleep. It’s also the term used for the Malaysian tapir that likely inspired the myth.

There are 4 living species of tapirs. 3 live in Central and South America and 1 lives in Malaysia. The South American, mountian, Bairds, and Malaysian tapirs are all considered endangered or vulnerable because of habitat destruction and poaching.
